yesterday, i got my mom to talk about her family. i wrote down every little detail, frantically, trying to keep up with her pace.
names. occupations. vices. i've been meaning to do this for a while. researching my mother's history on my own wouldn't be very easy.. tracking down old family records in a developing country already sounds overwhelming. so, i'm going to write it all down. type it all out. organize it. before she forgets. because once she forgets, i'm lost. without a history.

so far, i've learned about: a man who hit his head on a sink and died a sheriff (above) a daughter, in her twenties, so spoiled her personal maid wiped her ass a scam artist who changed her identity and went on the run a man on death row for a crime he didn't commit a prisoner of war during the japanese invasion i have family in toronto, the descendents of a man so ashamed of his impoverished family that he emigrated and stopped contacting them i learned that my mom slept on a palm frond mat on the floor

Friday: bike kitchen. swarm of fixed gear bro's visiting from umass. gin and mango juice at sam's. laura galu's birthday party. making out with laura g... i need to make sure we're on the same page about that.
Saturday: crafternoon at the resource center. saca class documentary. '93 til infinity dance party.
Sunday: easter keg hunt. running into anissa at the bus stop. being offered beer literally 10 seconds after getting off the bus. chilling in anissa's mod with so many people and a tub full of beer. glitter on my face by klide. talking about hawaii and being hapa with sarah. nap with kate in sarah's big bed.
kendyll called me when i was fairly buzzed to talk to me about wwoofing and i told her i got hired for reunion. she sounded really pissed and said something like "WELL IT'LL JUST BE ME AND ANGELA THEN" and hung up before i could talk more..
this is getting scary!
also - dyke march in san francisco this summer? alex barrows talked to me about it. she said i should stay with her. and that we should split a table at the portland zine symposium. sarah says i should go to the dyke march, too.. so. hopefully i'll scrape some money together.

this will be a good weekend-
i had a talk with phoebe that cleared up things that were making me feel really depressed. now i can act mostly okay and happy around her. and i think i'm ready to move on.
i went to the abortion speakout last night at the CLPP conference on reproductive rights. so moving. empowering. supportive. i can't wait for the workshops to start todayyyy
i've realized lately that a lot of my friendships are lacking real substance. i don't think that they don't care about issues.. maybe they just aren't interested in talking about them and challenging themselves? i don't know. anyway, so when i actually get to hear and talk about things that are important to me. politics. body image. race. social justice. it's like a breath of fresh air. it's just a shame that it only happens with a few people when all of my friends are "liberal".
after the speakout, i went to the jordan party and danced so hard.
also, bike kitchen got written up in one of smith's publications and we had a mini photoshoot for it.

good idea? yes? no? Molly says she wants to work on a farm with me somewhere in New England. I'd be up for it. Especially if they have pigs..

i'm really excited about my Horticulture class next semester even though i hear that half the students end up failing haha (totally going to be me)
and this: http://www.nybg.org/edu/soph/

Hampshire Halloween! I was a giraffe.
I've been a really terrible lj friend lately and haven't posted anything at all. I'm so busy with school and friends that it feels like there's too much to talk about.
Phoebe's birthday is on the 13th, so me and a few people are driving to Montreal for the weekend to celebrate. I'm really excited because I haven't traveled anywhere in this area.

Chocolate for Choice was really fun; we raised $24,000.
it was a bit like Costco on steroids.. if Costco only sold desserts. and was at the top of Safeco Field. anyway, i scored about a pound of chocolates and mini cakes to take home with me!
the other interns my age are so different from me-when we were cleaning up after the event, they were all talking about their maids. all of them. maids! it was really weird and awkward. maybe because it's more likely that someone on my mom's side would be the maid.
last month, sasha asked us what we wanted to discuss/have workshops about. i heard a lot of the same thing: youthyouthyouth, plan b, legalblahblah, riot grrrl. i said privilege and race, with them in mind. with all of us in mind.
last weekend was great. i'll talk about it later, after Shayla uploads our pictures.

i got home a few hours ago. survived another journey on the greyhound.
Reed is really nice. actually, it's perfect. and my interview went really well.. we chatted about primary colors, and liking the city but wanting a house with a yard so we could keep farm animals, the difference between racism here and in russia.

this feels all too familiar:
i got a hot new camera but, for some reason beyond my limited knowledge of computers, the software won't work and i can't upload pictures.
since shayla is coming in january, i've been checking out hotels. so far, the only one i've liked is the ace hotel in belltown
pretty cute right? she wants to visit me during spring break too, when i get my tattoo done in portland

my weekend was spectacular. i'm so happy that i was finally able to see Shayla again
we took pictures in those japanese photobooths, like i promised:
doesn't she look younger than me?

and i had my college interview. which turned out pretty disappointing.. the admissions officer spent the whole time trying to convince me that i should go there, instead of the other way around. many of the students i ran across seemed less than impressive.
but anyway, shayla took a picture of me in front of their main building:

we did a lot of touristy stuff, like hanging around union square. she made me ride those wretched cable cars. i forgive her. i made up for it by dragging her through the mission and to dolores park for the afternoon.
on the last day, we went to oakland and ate crepes and watched people set up for the hillary clinton rally

anddd, now i'm home.

yayyyy! i might get a position at the Lifelong AIDS Alliance! the lady is gonna call me back to check if there's an opening. i was planning on being in the kitchen, but this seems like an even better option for me anyway.
i'd be helping out in a food bank-type center for people with HIV/AIDS and other health problems.
